Unity Youth for Development(UY4D) yesterday Sartuday hosted the youth in Kaliyeka area in Traditional Authority Tsabango in Lilongwe to feed them with information on the Sexual Reproductive Health(SRH) and Gender Based Violence(GBV).

In a separate interview with FCM TV online, UY4D Executive Director George Chikapa said they decided to engage the youth with the SRH information and GBV because most of the youth are engaging in sexual activities because they are lacking SRH information as schools remain closed so that they can be taught there.

“We noticed a gap that was there when the youth are to access information on issues of SRH, GBV, so we discovered that information may be available but disseminated in way not adaptable to the youth. Therefore, through our engagement we decided to tip them these information so that they can teach their fellow youth in their respective communities,” said Chikaipa.

One of the participants Florence Kaledzera said she benefitted a lot to the training.

“I will work hard in bringing mind set change and behaviour change among my fellow youth and empower them towards reducing GBV,” added Kaledzera.

UY4D is a non-profit making youth organization operating in Kaliyeka community. The organization was established on August 26 2015. And it was registered to the Lilongwe District Youth Office in February 2016.

The organization has over 70 members, who are the young people above 18 years. The overall aim of the organization is to promote the well-being of young people in Kaliyeka community for them to become productive citizens of Malawi.
