Alliance for Democracy (afford) President Enock Chihana on Wednesday stormed Karonga to woo support for their torch bearer Fwasani Silungwe in the Karonga north west 30th of March parliamentary by-election.
Chihana who conducted a number of whistle stop tours in the constituency was franked by a number of aford’s National Executive Committee (NEC) members including publicity secretary Didigowa Nyasulu among others.
Speaking at the rallies the party leader, expressed confidence that their candidate will carry the day in the election saying Silungwe’s track record of development and leadership speaks itself hence urged people to vote for him.
He said, if the northern region is to have any meaningfuldevelopment it’s high time that the electrets started electing parliamentarians who have the north in their hearts and are royal to the north like their torch bearer.
“It is about time that we installed the trust and faith in people who are passionate about the north as for too long we have put in power parliamentarians who are serving the interest of other political parties whose strong hold is outside the north hence the north has been under developed and underrepresented in the national assembly,” he explained.
The party president therefore urged the people to turnout in large numbers in order to exercise their right to choose their candidate of choice on the polling day next Tuesday.
In his remarks Fwasani Silungwe, said people of the Constituency should expect meaningful development once ushered into office on the 30th of March polls.
Adding that his main focus will be to uplift the social economic welfare of the people.
“People of this area are looking for a candidate who is hard working, user friendly and someone who has a good reputation and I believe I’m that man as I have vast experience in development,” a bullish Silungwe said.
